Project Summary

Union City Remodel – Union City, CA

This whole-home renovation in Union City was designed for a young family seeking modern livability without expanding their existing structure. The project focused on flow, material consistency, and bringing natural light deeper into the home. Working within the original layout, we reconfigured the kitchen, upgraded all bathrooms, and refreshed each living space with a restrained material palette of white oak, white tile, and black accents. The result is a home that feels quietly modern and highly functional, without resorting to trend-driven flourishes.

A sculptural black steel stair rail anchors the first floor and sets the tone for the interior — refined but bold. Upstairs, the primary suite was updated to include better closet storage and a seamless transition to the private balcony, while the remaining bedrooms were refreshed for comfort and clarity. Outside, a modest hardscape redesign and backyard regrading created spaces for entertaining and play, supporting the needs of the household without overstatement. This remodel underscores how carefully calibrated interventions can completely reset a home’s feel and functionality.

Design Notes

We approached the design with restraint, knowing that modest changes—well executed—can profoundly shift the feel of a home. By focusing on clean detailing and durable finishes, we created a house that feels both elevated and relaxed. The new steel handrail is a standout detail, anchoring the space and hinting at the subtle industrial character that runs through the updated interiors. Storage was optimized throughout, especially in rooms that previously felt cramped or cluttered.

Testimonial

"We get so many compliments when people come over—it feels like the same house, but totally transformed. The design makes everyday life easier and more beautiful. Everything feels considered, and the house finally feels like it fits us."
